Today we walked along the beach down to Kuta beach & came across a ceremony happening, although this not unusual we where unsure as to what it was for. After approaching some on the local ladies present we were told it was a Nelu Bulanin, also known as Nyabutan ceremony . A Balinese ceremony held when a baby reaches three months of age. This ritual symbolises the infant's transition from the spiritual to the physical realm.
Key components of the Nelu Bulanin ceremony include:
Prayers and Offerings: A priest leads prayers & presents offerings to deities, the baby's ancestors, & benevolent spirits, seeking blessings for the child's well-being.
Introducing the Baby to the Earth: The baby's feet touch the ground for the first time, symbolising their offical entrance into the physical world.
Cutting the Baby's Hair: The baby's hair, considered impure, is ceremonially cut to cleanse & purify the child.
Naming the Baby: The child is formally given a name during the ceremony, marking their identity within the community.
Food Offerings: Offerings of food are made to appease malevolent spirits & attract positive energies, ensuring the child's protection.
These rituals collectively serve to purify the baby, introduce them to the community, & seek blessings for a healthy & prosperous life. Although we didn't see the baby
we were welcomed by the local ladies & offered treats.
Just another one of the spiritual & amazing ceremonies that happen in Bali.
